What, you might wonder, can you do with this LoRa mesh starter kit that is one of the door prizes for the upcoming inaugural ham radio meeting?  I’m glad you asked.

Build a repeater.  You could construct a solar powered Meshcore repeater, following these instructions.  You flash Meshcore repeater firmware to the controller, purchase a $10 solar powered lawn light at Lowes, and install this controller into the weatherproof enclosure of the lawn light.  When you are done, you will have a fully functioning Meshcore repeater that will seamlessly interconnect with the dozen existing Meshcore repeaters in Summit County.

Build a companion device.  You could build a companion device that permits your notebook computer to connect with and communicate through the Summit County Meshcore network.  You use a USB cable to connect this controller to your notebook computer and use the USB cable to flash Meshcore companion firmware to the controller.  Then use the Meshcore web app to connect your computer to the newly created companion device.  You can then, among other things, send and receive text messages through the Summit County Meshcore network.

There are many other ways to make use of this starter kit.
